Sycamore Middle School

Sycamore Middle School is located on the north-central side of Cheatham County between Nashville and Clarksville.  It is on Old Clarksville Pike just off State Highway 49.  SMS serves the communities of Pleasant View and East Cheatham.  Students from Pleasant View and East Cheatham Schools are promoted to SMS and then Sycamore High School.

SMS was established in 1979 as a junior high school.  It served all 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students on the northern side of the Cumberland River.  In the 1987-88 school year, SMS became a middle school for the first time housing 6-8th grades.  During the 1995-1996 school year, we became Sycamore Intermediate School housing only 5th and 6th grades.  SHS was opened the same year and housed our 7th and 8th graders.  Then in 1998, due to growth of our county, school clusters were formed.  Each year that those students moved up, the school added a grade.  So in the 1998-1999 school year we brought 7th grade back to SMS and split its student population to create Cheatham Middle School.  Then in 1999, SHS had four full grades (9-12). We built the new wing and 8th grade came back to our school (the 2000-2001) school year. Our school now has an enrollment of 780 5th through 8th grade students.
